MCHS journalism staff wins five Mark of Excellence awards
On March 8, the staff of the Meade County High School newspaper, the Current, and their adviser, Shannon Anderson, traveled to Western Kentucky University to attend the awards ceremony for the WKU/Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence contest and brought home five awards.

‘Camping for a Cure’ for cancer
The Meade County Relay for Life committee and team captains held meetings at Meade County RECC on the evening of March 8, discussing plans and possibilities for the upcoming Relay event which will be held June 8-9 at the Meade County Fairgrounds.

Children Action and their pregnant goats

The Children Action Group at First Baptist Church, Brandenburg, decided it was time to do something to help others in a tangible way. With the guidance of their teacher, Billie Jo Franklin, the children who are in kindergarten through 6th-grade, decided to raise money to purchase a goat for a needy family in one of the poor countries served by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. The Christmas gift catalog from which Franklin got the idea is a way for people to help others in sustainable ways by donating funds for dairy goats, baby chicks, nutrition projects, blankets and vocational training.

Applications available for $750 scholarship given by Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce
Applications are now available for the annual scholarship given to a high school senior by the Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce to encourage and promote higher education as a key ingredient in business and community leadership.

Computers for the community
Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) group members at Muldraugh Elementary have just finished working on a very exciting project. Students have been refurbishing used computers that were given to the Meade County school district by the Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, with additional help from the Hardin County School System.

TSA members take first at regional competition
On Feb. 23, the Meade County High School Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter traveled to Eastern Kentucky University for the Central Region Competition. Ten participants from regionals will be eligible for state competitions March 29-31.
