OPINION

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the Messenger:

(Saturday March 10, 2007) As I sit here and watch out my window, I see Stat flight taking off from the other end of our field. I have heard the sirens from Police, Fire and EMS for about the past hour. I do not know the severity of the victims in the accident at the corner of 79 and 428 (Guston Rd.), but one thing is for sure, whether it is a fatality or injury, this wreck is another statistic of what happens on Highway 79, especially between the Breck County line to Midway. I travel Highway 79 a minimum of four times a day between 428 and Brandenburg, sometimes as many as 6-10 times a day. And just on the average of four times a day, seven days a week I see law enforcement maybe and that is a big maybe once or twice (a week). I have cars that pass me doing at least 60-70 miles an hour, and one day last week as I rounded the curve on 79 towards Irvington a car came speeding passed me (after passing four cars behind me without slowing down) and then passed the four cars in front of me. That part of 79 is hilly, and hard to see cars coming at you not to mention the fact that this is a part of the highway where people are coming out of their driveways or crossing the street to check their mail. I can’t even count the number of times this happens daily.
