Search for Kayla Wilkins ends in Pinellas County, Fla.

The search for Kayla Wilkins ended Feb. 26 at 1:28 a.m. “We got a good call this morning,” said Meade County Sheriff Butch Kerrick. Kayla Wilkins, 17, and Cory Whitaker, 19, were found in an apartment in Pinellas County, Fla. Both were safe and sound.

Speculation about cleared land

Anytime land is cleared, questions arise as to what is going to be built, what is going to happen in that area. The two-acre parcel at the corner of the Bypass and Four Oaks Road is the latest subject of such wonderings and a source of concern for residents of the Four Oaks Subdivision.


Dumping of biohazard containers continues

More biohazardous materials were dumped alongside Meade County roads Feb. 23, bringing the total number of incidents to somewhere between 15 and 20 since December.


Local leaders attend BRAC update

What’s next for BRAC?

That’s what an estimated 250 people learned Feb. 20 when Maj. Gen. Robert Williams and Col. Mark Needham presented a public briefing at John Hardin High School. Williams is commanding general at Fort Knox and the U.S. Army Armor Center there, and Needham is the installation’s garrison commander.


Meade County FPD discusses long-range budget

Long-range planning continues to be the subject of much discussion at monthly meetings of the Meade County Fire Protection District board of trustees.


Muldraugh receives Area Development Funds

The Lincoln Trail Area Development District board of directors will present an Area Development Fund check to the city of Muldraugh during the Feb. 21 meeting of the board. The check, in the amount of $2,548.06, will be used by the city toward the purchase of a portable generator. The total cost of the project is $5,200. Muldraugh is to be commended for this project that will benefit the entire community.
