LST update given at City Council meeting
At Monday’s regularly scheduled Brandenburg City Council Meeting, Meade County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Annie Hamilton gave an update on the upcoming visit from the LST 325.
The LST 325, a 325-foot WWII landing ship, was one of the ships that actually landed in Normandy.
Hamilton said that the ship will arrive on Sept. 18, and tours will be offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sept. 19 through Sept. 21. The cost for a tour is $10 per adult and $5 for children. Any Korean or WWII veteran can tour this ship for free. A celebration will be held on Friday to welcome the ship in. Hamilton says that they are working with the schools so that every kid can go and tour the ship and learn. She projected that the ship will attract 20,000 visitors over its four-day stay. According to Hamilton, it’s a tourism “jackpot.”
“To actually have it, be able to tour it, and be able to learn about it is going to be a great opportunity for our area,” said Hamilton.
