This incident had destroyed his house and forced him to stay with his sister. His condition led him to rely heavily on the support of friends who lived close to the hospital, offering him and his family a temporary home.

The global community only became aware of Amna’s tragic end on August 17, 2025, when a video surfaced showing her frantic last moments. The footage captured a young girl with a ponytail, clutching a white water container, running across a street just as a missile struck, engulfing the scene in white smoke.

A Family Torn Apart

The sorrow of losing Amna was just one of the many tragedies Ashraf faced. On May 17, 2025, another airstrike claimed the lives of his wife, Najla, and their 8-year-old son, Baraa, while they sought refuge in the Tal al-Zaatar neighborhood. The attack also left their other son, 14-year-old Mohammad, injured for the fourth time due to similar circumstances involving Israeli forces.

Ashraf recounted the repeated injuries Mohammad suffered, each time while the boy was simply trying to collect water. Najla and Baraa were buried in Shekh Redwan Cemetery, separate from Amna who was laid to rest in Beit Lahia Cemetery. Najla’s wish for a named concrete grave for Amna could not be fulfilled due to economic constraints imposed by the blockade.

Just days after Amna’s death, Israeli forces raided Kamal Odwan Hospital. They abducted Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital’s pediatrician-director, along with other staff members. The raid resulted in significant damage to the hospital’s facilities including the surgical suite, lab, and storerooms, rendering it non-operational.
