Fiscal Court rescinds judge’s motion requesting reimbursement

All members of the Meade County Fiscal Court and County Attorney Darren Sipes were present for a short special called meeting on June 20. The main purpose of the meeting was to rescind the action taken at the previous meeting to reimburse Judge Haynes for health insurance premiums he paid during his tenure.

MCFPD board hires fire chief

A budget misunderstanding about $3,100 in state incentive pay nearly put an end to the hiring of Larry Naser as chief for the Meade County Fire Protection District. Board trustee Martin Bosemer, who had missed the last special called meeting, asked to see the job description that was posted. Chairman Mike Curl distributed the posting which began with the first item showing an annual salary at $35,000 with $3,100 in state incentives. Naser and Curl interpreted this to mean a total of $38,100 while other board members including trustees Bruno Ilario, Jim Anthony and Bosemer understood it to mean a total salary of $35,000 including the state incentives.

Services held to remember Sgt. James A. Sherrill

On both May 20 and 21 memorial services were held during which Sgt. James A. Sherrill, the first Meade County solider to die in the war in Iraq, was remembered and honored for his service to our country.

109 Board approves letter to send to delinquent customers

The Meade County Solid Waste and Recycle board of directors (109 Board) held a special-called meeting on June 15. Present were chairman Bim Wardrip and board members Heber Burchett, Mark Hubbard, Shannon Loose, and Jim Harris, as well as MCSW employees Wanda Terrell and Gayle Parr. 109 Board attorney Bob Heleringer was also in attendance.

Local man receives service dog from Pilot Dogs Inc.

Thanks to Pilot Dogs Inc. of Columbus, Ohio, Derek Allen of Garrett is now blessed with a pair of eyes to help guide him through life and all its wonderful possibilities.

Meade County Public Library board meets

Board chairman Sandra Stone began the June meeting with the entire board plus regional librarian Nelda Moore in attendance. Moore presented the board members with the monthly newsletter and suggested they review the eight new KDLA standards in upcoming meetings as a way to get some thought provoking ideas for future library needs.

Water District Board recognizes Whitfield’s contributions

Meade County Water District treasurer Jon Whitfield was recognized for having been on the board since 1990. Manager Joey Bartley expressed his appreciation for the support and work Whitfield had given to make the district what it is. Whitfield will be stepping down when his term expires this month but his replacement has not yet been named by the Fiscal Court. Commissioner Wesley Prather was elected to take over as treasurer.

The Muldraugh City Council held a budget workshop on June 20. In attendance were Mayor Danny Tate and council members Donnie Basham, Irvin Davis, Ron Heschke, and Curtis Kelley.

The Meade County Board of Adjustments held a special-called meeting on June 23. Present were board chairman Jess Mills, board members Louis Crawford and Joe Hobbs, and zoning administrator Barbara Campbell.
