Local teen hooks big dream
Fourteen-year-old Jake Heibert’s passion is fishing. He spends almost every free minute on Doe Valley Lake bass fishing. He also fishes two junior circuits, the KBFN circuit and the TBF/FLW circuit.

State Agricultural Development Board approves $20,000 for the Meade County Riverport Authority
FRANKFORT – The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved the Meade County Riverport Authority for $20,000 in Meade County funds to assist with the preliminary engineering and design cost for overall development of the Meade County Riverport. This proposal was one of the 89 projects, totaling $7,107,667 approved at the June Agricultural Development Board meeting.

Meade County Extension Homemakers hold 58th annual meeting
The Meade County Extension Homemakers held their 58th annual meeting June 22 at the Extension office. It had a western theme and was well attended by over 85 people. They enjoyed a good meal, successful meeting and good entertainment provided by local musicians Jack Whelan and Randall Brown. The band performed with guitar and song with a western flair.

Celebrating with the MCHS Class of 1946

The Meade County High School Class of 1946 met June 3 at the Stuart Pepper Middle School for the alumni banquet celebrating 60 years since graduating. We were recognized by Velmeda Bruner, who presided at the meeting. This was the largest banquet meeting. Many friends of years past were there to visit and reminisce.

Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch celebrates 30 years
The Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch opened for their 30th year of serving Kentucky’s youth on June 4, with boys in attendance. The 2006 camping season runs for eight weeks, serving both boys and girls, alternating weeks, throughout the summer. The Boys and Girls Ranch is a nonprofit organization, serving Kentucky children between the ages of 8 and 11, through a summer camping program designed to build their self-esteem, while teaching them respect for themselves, others and law enforcement professionals. The camp is free to the campers, thanks to the dedication and support of our sheriffs, members and contributors. The cost of serving these children is $300 per week per child. With continued support from our contributors, we will continue to reach these youngsters.

Department of Veteran Affairs to provide free credit monitoring
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Veteran Affairs announced last week that they will provide one year of free credit monitoring for people potentially affected by the recent theft of an electric data file containing the personal information of millions of veterans from the home of a VA employee in Maryland.
