People to People Student Ambassadors

Two Meade County High School students are included in the Louisville delegation of the 2006 People to People Student Ambassador program whose 21-day adventure will take them through Europe all the way to the island nation of Malta. The students are Ava Nicole Jordon and Rebekah Diane Medley. The total group of 25 students and three teacher-leaders departed from Louisville International Airport on June 21 for the trip of a lifetime.

PVT. JORDAN P. RITCHIE

Army National Guard Pvt. Jordan P. Ritchie has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

CASEY ELIZABETH DOWELL

Casey Elizabeth Dowell earned her masters of business administration degree on June 9, 2006, from the University of Kentucky. She received her B.S. in accounting from Western Kentucky University in December 2004.

One of the military community’s premier benefits has become even more valuable to 500 college and high school students through the annual Scholarships for Military Children Program. Nearly 5,000 students applied for the scholarships at commissary locations worldwide.

Ancestral Trails Historical Society meeting

Richard Briggs spoke at the June meeting of the Ancestral Trails Historical Society. He spoke about the history of Rock Haven, located on the Ohio River in Meade County.

Christian Women’s Club meets second Monday of each month

As always, the Elizabethtown Christian Women’s Club met and enjoyed a delicious lunch, fellowship, great music and speaker on June 12. We always gather on the second Monday of the month at Country Hearth Inn at 11 a.m. and finish around 1 p.m.

AUSTIN BROUSSARD

Austin Broussard, an alumnus of Airline High School, graduated from Yale University on May 22, 2006 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. At commencement, Austin was awarded the Roosevelt L. Thompson Prize for his commitment to public service as well as the Philo S. Bennett Prize for the best senior thesis on political philosophy. He plans to attend Vanderbilt Law School in the fall.

Morehead State University has announced that Christina Rose Miller, Brandenburg, has received a Presidential Scholarship for the 2006-07 school year.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College announces spring dean’s list

The following students made the dean’s list at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College for the spring 2006 semester. The students, who are recognized for academic excellence, must achieve a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average overall for the semester. This semester 362 full-time and 177 part-time students made the dean’s list.
