The Meade County chapter of Habitat for Humanity has been muddling along for the last several years, making progress in fits and starts while finishing one home and nearing completion on two others. A recent interview with Maj. Gen. Donald C. Storm dispelled any rumors that the National Guard in Brandenburg is slated to close. In fact, indicated Storm, there are plans to further expand the Armory – not close it.

Information on Kroger expansion forthcoming; Chinese restaurant to open
Word on the street is that Brandenburg Kroger is planning a substantial expansion project in the near future. What’s been passing around is that the three businesses to the right of Kroger – Nails Galore, Rose Garden, and Classic Cleaners – will move out of their current locations, freeing up that space for Kroger to expand.

House Bill 129 provides no charge for driver’s licenses due to readdressing
House Bill 129, an act relating to operator’s licenses, amends KRS 186.540 and grants a free, corrected driver’s license to an individual if the individual’s street name or address was changed and the person did not physically move to a new residence.

Board of education rejects bids on MCHS addition
The Meade County Board of Education held a special called meeting July 27 to discuss the bids received on the auditorium/athletic complex addition/renovation of Meade County High School. Superintendent of schools Mitch Crump said he was disappointed that the bids came in significantly over the estimated costs and recommended rejecting them.
