Fire destroys area veneer plant;
Employees continuing forward

“It was one heck of a fire,” Heth Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Cecil Garman said.

Garman’s department was one of the first on the scene of the Norstam Veneer fire, which started at 9:05 p.m. Saturday night, Feb. 2.

Suspected motel meth lab leads to drug dog

The training of a housekeeper at the Super 8 Motel has already paid dividends.

After a suspected meth lab was discovered late last week, that prompted motel co-owners Kenny Jenkins and Allen Hicks to investigate the possibility of acquiring a drug dog.

Relief, further details sought following release of state’s ‘painful’ spending plan

In what might be the most downbeat budget address since 1988 – when a new governor told a joint session of the General Assembly that Kentucky was “broke, busted, tapped out” – Gov. Steve Beshear, himself a new governor finding the cupboard bare, outlined a spending proposal last week “austere to the point of pain,” and riddled with spending cuts across state government.
