Back at the camp, a different scene unfolds in one of the tents where a soldier named Jewhen, formerly a barber, now cuts his comrades’ hair, bringing a semblance of normalcy and comfort to the harsh conditions. “It’s therapeutic, a way to bring a piece of home here,” he shares.

Despite their resilience, the emotional and physical toll on the soldiers is palpable. They speak of the difficulties not just in terms of combat but also the psychological burden of constant survival mode. The deployment of technology and drones plays a critical role, often determining the success of their operations and, by extension, their survival.

Technological adeptness is crucial, as Anatolij, a drone pilot, points out. Younger recruits are quicker to adapt to the complex controls compared to older soldiers, who might find traditional combat roles less challenging than maneuvering drones.
