Mayor Ronnie Joyner welcomed guests and gaveled a special called meeting of the Brandenburg City Council into session Nov. 29. Agenda items included a first reading of an ordinance to rename streets and the first reading of an ordinance amending the general fund budget in order to purchase a backhoe. Council members Scotty Applegate, Bruce Fackler, Margaret Love, Carol Nelson, and Bradley Johnston assembled to consider these recommendations. Councilman Patsy Lusk was unable to attend.

FOP and FOPA make holidays merry and bright for nearly 350 Meade County kids
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #67 and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of FOP Lodge #67 are already in the Christmas spirit. On Dec. 4, they took delivery of a truckload of gifts from Toys for Tots which will be distributed to Meade County children through the Angel Tree program.
Meade County Conservation District develops Web site
The Meade County Conservation District held its monthly meeting on Nov. 27. Present were chairman John Bruington and supervisors Joe Barger, Henry Pike, Jack King, Jim Scott, and Nathan Beavin, as well as employees Charlotte Lawson, Liz Hawkins, Calvin Bohannon, and B.J. Stith. Board member Fred L. Sipes was absent.
Board of Health discusses board and nurse educator vacancies
The Meade County Board of Health met Nov. 27. Gretchen Lucas, providing a financial update, advised the last payment of $20,794 had been made on the health department addition. Total construction costs were $1,017,434. Lucas further advised $2,078 remained of the health department’s matching funds. That account is now to be closed out, and the funds returned to the health department’s money market account. The current balance in the money market account is $40,575, said Lucas, but that amount will increase as tax revenue comes in over the next few months.
Restorative Medical makes trip to China
Karen Bonn, who owns and operates Restorative Medical of Brandenburg, recently made a work trip to China to assist the country in bringing better medical technology practices to its hospitals and clinics.

Ethics Commission ponders 3-year-old ethics complaint
Meade County Ethics Commission chair Joanne Fitzgibbon and commission members Harold Fackler, Gloria Brady, Lamar Jones, Tara Powers and Tim Gossett conducted a special meeting of the commission Nov. 27. Member Joe Bewley did not attend.

Energy items cost nothing; they make you money
“I’m sick and tired of our country buying energy from countries that want to kill us.” Thus began Doug Rye as he addressed nearly 70 people who gathered Nov. 30 for a seminar on energy efficiency. “We’re seven times less ready for an oil embargo than we were 20 years ago,” said Rye, and he is looking ahead to seven years from now when he predicts we will experience a great oil decline in the world – the day demand for oil is larger than the supply. “Americans need to wake up and do everything we can to conserve energy.”

Community receives Area Development Funds
The Lincoln Trail Area Development District board of directors was pleased to present an Area Development Fund check to the city of Brandenburg. The check, in the amount of $1,274.03, will be used toward the purchase of a new ADA compliant drinking fountain for Riverfront Park. A check was also presented to Meade County Fiscal Court in the amount of $1,250 for improvements to Meade Olin Park. The city and county should be commended for these projects and the benefit they afford the entire community.
